This is exactly what the "Object velocity" channel is; check the available channels in the G-Buffer rollout.

    Best regards,

how could you use the object velocity map to add motion blur from within max?

        Hi

Percydaman, the velocity chanal can be used as alternate to real 3d motionblur, produced from vray while rendering.

you can load it in combustion and also in aftereffects for more precise produce 2d motionblur in your compositing software. it is an alternating way to get motionblur, while speeding up your renders, that this way dont need to be rendered with 3d motionblur, and getting more flexibility because using it incompositing.

at last it isnt as perfect as rendered 3d motionblur, but better than only immage motionblur, and also more flexibel.

        nice stuff

        Tom

Afaik image motion blur uses the velocity channel the same way combustion would. They should be the same if im not mistaken.

yes I understand all that. But the gentlemans link afaik, showed that it could be completely done within what appears to be xsi. I took it from his post that he wants to be able to do it within max as well. hence my question.

Well, by using image motion blur in max you are actually doing it , but you cant add an external motion vector image to affect your rendering in max, you have to do that in a compositor. Xsi has its own intergrated comp. suite that enables one to do stuff like this. Very handy

the reelsmart motion blur plugin for after effects should be able to use it.
i have to try it out with vray, this looks very promising.

plastic: I don't think reelsmart mb requires any velocity information just RGB.

it doesn't require it, but version 3 comes with a plugin for motion vectors.

                        see:
                        http://www.revisionfx.com/mblur.htm

this should make it much more useable, if i can figure out how to make vray store the velocity channel

plastic_ is right I was needed this channel to use it within reelSmart motion blur 3.
thx vlado, I will try to figure out how to combine them.

How? I can't find any slot to give it an imput image or anything. Only a duration spinner and a checkbox for "work with transparency".
                            Am I missing something here?

I think what he meant was that object MB uses it by default.
