  • VRayScene Manager for 3ds max

I recently learned that I cant import a vrayscene into 3ds max while maya and modo have a VRayScene Manager. I would love to groom hair in XGen and export to 3ds max like a proxy object but Max cant accept vrayscene files. Pretty shocking to me. I wish for this feature to be considered. Thanks.

Why is this so shocking to you? We are working on this for the next service pack (V-Ray 3.5).

      Best regards,
      Vlado

        Sorry Vlado,

It was more of a frustration than a shock. I was working hard to find a way of exporting my XGen groom to 3ds max with 1:1 results with no luck. I could only rely on reconstruction from NURBS curves in 3ds max.

I really wished that I could export the groom as a Vray scene to be used in 3ds max as a proxy object. Actually if you were to test such a workflow, would it be possible to bake XGen expressions that are related to hair color? Would the hair material be editable or would you have to set up the hair material in 3ds max?

Would it be possible in the futute to include expressions into Vray hair shader?

Sory for my emotive language Vlado, I'm actually extremely grateful and impressed with V-Ray and Chaos Group. I have been particularly impressed this past year with the new developments.

Also the fact that you (Vlado) are always developing, helping and listening to feedback is one of the best things about VRay! - to be aable to talk to you on a forum is increadibly valuble.

and I always get positive answers from the forums from your team and other members

I only started really loving V-Ray when Grant Warwick showed how to make shaders. before then I was so lost and the technilogy wasnt like it is now. Im starting to feel more intuitive with VRay because of Grant Warwick and your incredible updates.

My best regards to Vlado and Tashko

So just FYI the latest nightly builds include a VRayScene object that allows you to bring in and render any .vrscene file, along with all the shaders and geometry. It will also be included with V-Ray 3.50 beta 2 in a couple of weeks.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

Vlado, I'm so happy. This is huge for me!

Every 1 feature added to V-Ray is 1 more thing to be happy about and increases the power of what can be done. Im very, very happy to be a vray user! The fact that you, Vlado, listen to people and help them each day is what makes Vray truly different. I wish Autodesk would listen to people like you do.

I want to test sending Xgen grooms from maya to max to see if its 100% matching. Xgen expressions can be used to control the hair material parameters so Im keen if that gets preserved.

Vlado I could kiss you! Fantastic news!

Ah vlado, I dont know where to access the nightly builds, is there some kind of link or do I have to make an application to access them? - I dont mind at all to wait for beta 2

Really, thanks again....thats such a big thing for me....us
