That would be a really interesting comparison, looking forward to seeing it. 3x sounds really impressive if true. Did you check your material, lights and render settings to see if these are not the cause of the slowness?

There's certainly a lot of opportunity to improve; after all this is just a very first initial implementation in V-Ray. It's not terribly bad, if I say so myself. There are also some additional improvements for the final release (auto-fit the resolution to the VFB window, stability improvements, support for locked viewports, tracking of VFB region changes, tracking of additional scene changes like object properties, some render settings etc).

          Best regards,
          Vlado

How about running IPR inside of viewport instead of VFB? That's probably my #1 request. 3ds Max UI is designed in such a wasteful manner that struggle for space occurs on daily basis.

We'll see about that. It would be much better to be able to dock the entire VFB like you can do in V-Ray for Modo, so that you get all the color corrections, history etc.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

Yep, that would help too, but I personally usually use very small window, so if that is the case, I'd like an option to toggle all possible toolbar off. Right now, I can simply resize viewport, and fit VFB window right inside that viewport. If VFB was dockable, then I would still have lots of missing space, I would only gain a little bit by window header being gone. I like how clean activeshade is. No toolbars anywhere, it's just a viewport with mode set to "rendered".

I would hate the IPR in a viewport - I use the viewports for commands and control - IPR on the second monitor, with other controls around it.

I'm one of thsoe peope who has different viewports set up for different things - top side, ortho etc.

IPR means I can just tinker with the end result yet manoeuvre around the scene at will.

That's why it's an option Nobody will force you use it if you don't want to.

                      Best regards,

You know what also could be cool.... an option to always keep the VFB on top--say if you are editing textures in photoshop, pressing save and then seeing the IPR frame update in the second window.

BTW - Vlado, can you have a word with your marketing team and tell them to answer their emails! - still waiting on my signed t shirt from you

That would be my fault, apologies for the delay. But they have my signature now and the t-shirts should be ready soon.

As Vlado said, in this case, it's about personal preferences. I, for example, have my second screen always filled with maximized slate material editor, and if I have VFB on the primary monitor covering my 3ds Max UI, I need to constantly shuffle it around, because it always covers something I need at the moment. And again, as Vlado said, having viewport support for IPR does not mean it's going to be removed from VFB
