  • vray advanced shader

Just thought of some cool features to add to vray shader or make it a new vray advanced shader which would have lots of options and flexibility.
Having said that i mean to include slots like diffusion and extra luminance which comes in handy time to time. But aside from that add all the specular controls like spec level spec glosines (already there i believe) spec color. Make it independant from reflection level. Also I thought another cool thing would be highlite dispresion. Like kind of the ability to be able to extend highlite to wrap around surfaces. Another thing I thought of was bevel edges in shader, dont know if its possible, but the idea is to bevel sharp edges with out actually adding more geometry. Kind of like vray displacement mod. Also an idea for vray texture. To have edge blending feature which would blend texture's uv borders makeing it look seamless.
    Thats it for now

funny you should mention the bevel option by material, as chaos has a plugin called f-edge if youve never heard of it. very nice plugin, you should check it out.

as far as the specular highlight, the latest vray can achieve those and even color, but its workflow is much different from max's native specular control.

both teapots have vraymaterial assigned to them and do not need to reflect their environment to get the highlights.

you need to use the latest 1.45 version. Youll see settings there for highlights. uncheck trace reflections in the options dialogue in the vray material and youll just get highlights.

Will VRay ever get "proper" advanced shader like FR material and Brazil material with bunch of options? This is the only weakest point of VRay left, so why don't Chaos fix that first?

            Hi

well if i am not wrong, Peter told something on the exe project thread in the announcements, between the lines.

sounds as if the new standalone has something build in to get an own shader language. maybe this has to do with it.

At last i think still while vray mat hasnt as much advanced nice presets as brazil or fr have, it allready is a simple but very powerful tool which gives you the freedom to produce very good and highend materials.

of course some things are still missing, like faster sss, and a selfilu slot. But i am sure, time, and Vlado and peter will fix this later.
