It certainly is, technically. It's also possible to get the irradiance map in the viewports too...

i think vlado meant it's possible for him to do it.
if i remember right finalrender also has an option to display GI in the viewport.

speaking of viewport display, i'd really like to see transparency in the viewport with vray materials.
