  • Better VFB icon layout

I keep noticing that even after using V-Ray VFB for several years, some things just do not save to my muscle memory. I think the main culprit is the tiny icons at the bottom. They are quite messy and not very descriptive. To remedy this, I propose rearrangement that would make them at least little more easier to use.

In 3.5, there is not progress bar on the bottom. And there are some icons on the left of it, while other icons on the right of it. So I would suggest to take advantage of this to improve how intuitive the UI is:

Yeah, it's been a sore point for a while now and needs some love. I have a question related to that - do we actually need all the color correction toggles in that toolbar? They can be turned on/off from the color corrections panel anyways and I usually do it from there.

    Best regards,

I never ever used them. Always toggled color corrections in the side panel. I would be happy to see them gone. They are just duplicate control in the same window

I second that Vlado. BTW, I wanted to post a wish to remove those CC icons for a while, but I'm too lazy and always forget. On the other hand, the VFB could have just a single button to enable/disable color corrections altogether. The same could be done for lens effects, a single button to enable/disable Bloom and Glare. No need to open side panels for that would be good IMO.

As long as the colorspace/gamma button stays, I can live with the other color correction buttons going away.

And while we're at it: Any chance for changing the background color on renderings when rendered on blank?

Often use the exposure button for when Im rendering from a perspective view to check an object etc.

Wouldn't be easier to use Physical Camera exposure control for that? It will allow you to have different exposures for both camera and perspective views. Also, it changes actual rendering exposure, not just post process exposure. If you change just post process exposure, then adaptive sampling is still determined by actual rendering exposure, so adaptive sampler then refines different exposure level than the one you see = more noise.

While you're at the icons - don't forget to to have a "lock to locked camera" icon so the interactive rendering only focuses on one viewport.

Not sure whether this is necessary, I presume the view to render lock button on the render settings would do that. If it mimicked that lock feature then perhaps.

It is necessary - why? because making things easier for the user is always a good thing - and because I don't know about you but I want to be able to lock the IPR to the view I am aiming to render from, and I don't want it to keep switching between top, left, orthographic views as I edit the scene.

I don't want to open the render settings and scroll down every time Iw ant to toggle that.

You don't have to scroll, it's right on the top (or bottom). Not hidden in any rollout. And it's not something you do 10 times in a minute that you need a switch for it right by your hand in VFB. We are talking here about decluttering VFB yet you are already proposing new ways to clutter it back. Moreover, by adding a duplicate of a button that's already on a more appropriate place.

You can already change the background colour of the VFB by just right clicking in open space.
