Yes, thats how it should be. You could grab devel branch from web-interface, but its not useful right now. This branch is also not yet updated to latest SVN changes. Even master will not work with latest Blender SVN.

Seems like after box camera update custom build doesen't load the script any more, has anyone similar problem?

I suspect it was probably the commit before that,

commit 86ca38762e8d442b178e1c4b95083452ff4c3758
Date:   Sun Feb 27 23:04:50 2011 +0300

    fix: bpy.utils.register_class()

This commit allows the script to work with the latest svn trunk. I just built r35342 which is working with the newest git revisions. Before this commit the script worked with builds around r34764 or earlier. You might want to revert your git changes, or update to a more recent blender build.

If you are interested in devel branch use:

cd <where-is-scriptdir>/io/vb25
git checkout -b devel origin/devel # first time
# then just
git checkout devel

Back to master branch:

cd <where-is-scriptdir>/io/vb25
git checkout master

Also a new feature is added to devel:

• Material override for objects in linked groups.
  Workflow is smth like this at this time:[list:2sfafrja]
• Link a Group[/*:m:2sfafrja]
• Add Cube and set linked group as its dupli group[/*:m:2sfafrja]
• In Scene buttons press "Copy linked materials" in Tools panel (all materials from linked group will be copied to Cube materials)[/*:m:2sfafrja]
• Now in Cube materials select needed material and make in local[/*:m:2sfafrja]
• If you need multiple override for several dupli-groups you could do this several times, just keep material name base the same.
  [For example, if linked material name is "MyMaterial", then "MyMaterial.001" and "new_MyMaterial_green" will be ok, but "one_more_My_Material" will not work][/*:m:2sfafrja]
