Just another point of view on the subject if you have stability issues in vray:
I have some sort of ram issue in my system, vray would crash often with high detail scenes. I found reducing the bucket to 16 (supposedly it's less memory intensive) would cause far less crashes. It's slightly slower than the default 32 but not terribly noticeable unless your interested in doing animations where it all adds up.
