    Why vector displacement not working?

  • #2
Vector displacement (Object and Absolute) not working at all only simple one vector but it gives incorrect results.

V-Ray does not support Vector displacement from ZBrush. Try output from Mudbox.

every video from internet shows it works from zbrush or mudbox and no restrictions in vray docs why you've said this? This is something wrong with build mesh just explode it only works properly in blender 2.8

flat thanks. Looks like VDM from Zbrush works only in Maya in some cases.

But still ive recreated VDM in Mudbox for all Blender Cycles versions it worked correct.

In Vray for Blender VDM doesn't work at all. The displacement node has 3 vector displacement sliders work only one (vector). I have tried tangent, absolute tangent, object and world VDM maps nothing work correctly a mess!

            Please fix it!

It works fine with Mudbox according to my test.
              Here is my setup:

svetlozar.draganov thanks but this is still not correct. You are using intensity instead of color which make vector displacement just a regular displacement. Here is like it should be so please fix it!!!

You are correct, we'll have a look it more carefully.

It looks like the default color space is sRGB, which is not the right one.
Here how things looks like when the space is switched to Linear:

I have looked. This is still bad results. Firs - there is a "water level" on your and my images in cavities. Still cycles gives the best result. And you introduce here a different node - "subdivision" whats the difference between displacement node? Absolute tangent maps are not working. When you apply rotation.scale to the object displacement wont work correctly at all. Then ive tried more complex shape and discovered some artifacts and hard edges on vray render image. And i always use linear slot when using 32bit maps. So something is wrong. BTW ive tried baking on mesh itself on plane etc. same results. BWT several month ago there was an issue with regular displacement - mesh exploded on seams but now its ok.

Would it be possible to share all files including, Blender one, Mudbox one and the displacement texture exported from Mudbox?
Thank you very much in advance.
