  • Predictable & Precise UVmapping: not Vray4Blender related

    Dear blender users,
I'm writing here to have some info about UVmapping with blender.
Probably could be better to write into another blender forum but I decided to write here because I suppose that my question is more archiv-related and I supposed that here should be many archivers

Daily I work with 3dsmax&Vray and I'm studying blender to test if I can switch in the future.
Obviously vray for blender is a good help for the jump!

About my UVmapping problems, I ask you if there is a method to have the same of the 3dsmax UVWmap modifier.
That modifier permits to have in a fast way a precise and predictable UVmapping with some standard projection (cube or box mapping, cylinder, sphere, face, ecc...) and, if you have metrics unit setted up, you can set quickly a real life measure according with the real life dimensions of the textures.

The only thing I've found in blender is the object mapping, where you use a another object to project the UV coords.
    Do you know another method??
Do you think it's only my problem??

Do you know a good forum/blog where I can share this problem and suggest as add-on feature??

Thanks in advance for the patience.

You can use an Empty (with cube drawtype) like 3DSMAX gizmo in the UVW Modifier.
In the texture set mapping to triplanar and input Empty name in the object name field.
So transforming the Empty you can rotate(R) and move(G) the texture origin and with Dimension (N Panel, Transform Tab) you can set the texture size.

This is an "unwrap-free" method to texturize in blender with realworld dimensions.

Thanks..but this method works also with blender 2.57??

EDIT: I've tried with blender 2.57 and I can't find the "set triplanar"... I've tested with the "object" coordinates option, assigned the Empty and it works.

      Thanks for the tips...

        Just an update info.
The user hp9000 posted in blender artists forum an addon that works similar to max UVWMap modifier.
This can speedup things and you can see the feedback in blender textured shading mode.

You can found it here: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthr ... p-Modifier

          thank you cyberlecs.

I hope hp9000 can replicate the 3dsmax UVWmap modifier...probably because I use it from years, but I think it's really fast to do quick UVmapping.
