  • Animation Render (prepass) Black Spot.

    Hello,
I am having some problems when trying to render an animation using the prepass way.
    Theres always some black spots.

Trying to render a simple animation, just a cube moving.
    The process:
Under Render Tab, turn animation on, Full range, calculate GI only during the prepass part.
Then, under Globall Illumination tab, use Irradiance map for primary engine, and Brute Force for secondary engine.
For irradiance Map, using the preset, Medium Animation. Turn on Autosave, point to a directory, keeping the default name for the im map.
After the prepass been calculated, switch to Animation (rendering) mode, switch the secondary engine to none, and turn off, calculate GI only.
Point to the directory containing the IM sequence maps.
    Render the animation.
I am using the Blender/Vray Build 2.66-54991, downloaded from the http://cgdo.ru/vrayblender/.
    Vray version: 2.30

    Thank you.

I guess you could play with interpolation params, but most guys render animation with Brute Force.

Re: Animation Render (prepass) Black Spot.

      Thank you for the response.

Yes, i think the best way to work with object animation (moving objects) its using the brute force approach. I did some tests with camera animation, and everything works just fine. I was trying the prepass way, because it seems a lot faster than the brute force, when dealing with moving objects.
I tried all numbers with the interpolated frames, 2 , 3, and the black spots are always present. Have you tried to render animated objects using the prepass approach?

      Again, thank you very much.

Did you figure out any more about the best way to do a pre-calculated irrradiance map? I am finding that using the multiframe incremental gives me black spots throughout the frames. The best solution I've been able to find is to run the "Animation (prepass)" and in the animation settings, change my "step" value to 10. The problem is that I get errors when I do the final animation (I use an interval of 1) that tell me the irradiance map not found. It does eventually load something, because the rendering looks good. I just don't know why this method is giving me errors.
Thanks in advance for any additional info regarding animation pre-calcs.

andybot, could you please prepare a test scene for me?

Re: Animation Render (prepass) Black Spot.

I am new here, so first of all, Andrey thank you for the VrayBlender. Its great!

Got the same artifacts as andybot describes (multiframe incremental - from file method). The attachment is one frame of final test animation. Ground and rim is the same VRayMtl without any shading. For GI I used IRmap for first bounces and light cache for the secondary bounces. But got the same result with brute force for secondary bounces. Animation(prepass) - animation(rendering) method working fine.

Re: Animation Render (prepass) Black Spot.

So I made a less complex scene than my original 100+ MB scene and tried the various animation settings. I was not able to make my earlier workaround work this time, but mutliframe incremental ended up working just fine. I just kept the step value at 1, and got a good solution out of it. I used "from file" to load the mutliframe irradiance map instead of the "animation (render)" setting.

My problem with the animation (prepass) setting is that it generates an irradiance map per each frame. My maps were coming out at 17 MB per frame (full HD), which over thousands of frames... well, you can see the problem. There was no way I was going to be able to get that much file data uploaded to a render farm on my mediocre internet connection. At every 15 frames, I was able to make it work.

What my hope is, is that there may be way to generate one multiframe irradiance map file with some larger step increment. That way I can get a reasonable file size on my saved irrmap file, while keeping any artifacts to a minimum. Anything I tried, I got splotches all over my final renders.

Actually this is not related to the original post, but just quick solution to the problem I posted on the image above (rim with ugly artefacts).
Using Multiframe incremental mode, I set the animation mode under Render Tab to Full Range and everythig is fine.
