  • Distributed rendering

I am attempting to render an animation through distributed rendering over my employer's Windows network and pc's. It seems to go wrong when the slaves need to read the lightmaps.

What I did: Render Light Cache map and have it auto saved to the Shared directory set up in Distributed rendering. (I have tried this with a shared folder on my pc as well as with a folder on our server.) When I want to render the Irradiance map and the LC 'from file', it renders black. From the console I can see the textures are loaded correctly from the shared folder, but the lightmap fails to load on the slave (see screenshot). The slave reports an error loading light map as well (see bottom screenshot).

I allready save the lightmaps to a shared folder, and point to that at 'from file' for the LC. However I noted the textures are read on the slave by my pc name (C624) while the lightmap seems to keep pointing at the local folder. Any ideas?

Thanks! Is there a new vrayblender download? I checked here http://cgdo.ru/vrayblender/

No, just a new exporter, but I'm working on automated builds right now =)

thanks, I will wait for the build. Or is the exporter something that will work with a 'standard' Blender?

It will work but then you will have geometry export in python which is much slower and there will be no vray procedurals.

              Re: Distributed rendering

Can the expoter be updated in my current vrayblender, and if yes where can I find the latest exporter? (excuse my questioning, I have only used the downloads from http://cgdo.ru/vrayblender/ so far)

                Re: Distributed rendering

Sure, there is a button called "Update Exporter" under the Exporter panel or you could do it manually as described here https://github.com/bdancer/vb25/wiki/Installation

                  Re: Distributed rendering

I didn't know updating the exporter is that easy.. So, succesfully updated the exporter but the problem remains; the slave cannot load the LC map:

                      Re: Distributed rendering

Worked fine on my test machine, may be the problem is that is not responding? And make sure scene file is saved.

                        Re: Distributed rendering

I updated Vray from 2.20.01 to 2.30.02 and now it works. I save the lightmaps to a network directory and the slave can now load them from there. Saving the lightmap to a local shared folder does not work, the slave then does not understand it is a shared folder.
