  • Shading Problems

    Dear Andrey,

I'm having problems with the vrb3 / VR3. When I render an object, I get this:

The only way to get good shading is to add an edge split modifier, to get this:

The geometry is clean, this shows up with all texture mapping types, there are no doubles and the normals are consistent.

I don't know if its related, but here are 2 more renders difference is smooth shading works.

I have a temporary workaround for now, but I'm sure this worked before I moved to VRB3. I have a confidentiality issue which prevents me issuing the blend file, but its easy to reproduce.

Looks like a mapping issue. Are you just using object mapping or did you UV map in Blender? Perhaps check that your UV map channel is referenced in your node setup.

      Hi andybot,

The texture on. The road one is object mapping with a transform math node controlled by an object select. The other was uv mapped with a projection mapping modifier, but I had to apply the modifier as vrb ignores it. The other is a uv mapped one. The uv projection modifier is ignored by vrb and must applied, which it is. I have used uv channel and uv named mapping and both give this result.

Perhaps I should post an extract from the blend file. R

        Dear All,

I have prepared a small file which shows the issues, with no confidfential information in it. The shading issues apply whether there is a texture assigned or not, and the

By the way, I'm on W7 64, with latest updated exporter (20140801), and VR3.0.

        Many Thanks!

            Thanks Andrei!

I was getting nervous as I have a deadline for tomorrow . I have some other small issues as well, but nothing that's stopping me from finishing the job. For that, should I use github instead? Whichever makes it easier for you.

Whichever I do, I'll check both before submitting any more reports....

            Thanks again!

I'll prefer github if you don't mind =)
