  • Blender Bevel tool/modifier, edge split, shading issues, funny reflections

    Hi,

    Using: blender 2.77 (w/v-ray additions) and V-ray 3.30.4.0.

Hopefully it's okay to post here in bug section

I have unwanted shading issue on bath geometry (poly normals are correct and fine) that is one thing, the other is I beveled countertops but I get weird lines along edges which are distributed randomly, settings are pretty low though

    P.S.

#This is just something I figured to pin here. Reflections: when using bevel tool or bevel modifier I get artifacts wrong looking reflections, but when I make simple cubic geometry (flat shading) without beveling it works fine for reflections, also edge split modifier si making similar problems in reflections. If someone can help, I would appreciate.

have you tryed recalculate normals, clamp normals in bevel modifier? what other modificators are set to those objects?

Don't use smooth shading for arcviz object unless Normals > autosmooth > angle.
For flat areas smooth shading with reflections are pure nonsense, they are from Alice in wonderland.
Left objects flat shading, right objects smooth shading. All you see are reflections, material diffuse is pure black.

        Hi,

No modifiers on each object, normals are calculated and are facing correctly, but I'm gonna tryout to clamp normals in bevel modifier, thanks.

Yeah, I guess reflections appear different based on wether it is shaded flat or smooth, is that right? Thank you.

For countertops, no modifiers shading is flat, but for bath normals are set to autosmooth on 30 degree angle.

Autosmooth only works/effect with smooth shaded objects.

Okay, since I use irradiance map + light cache, the problem was settings in irradiance map, so with normal settings

              clr thresh: 0.3
              nrm thresh: 0.3
              dist thresh: 0.1

              it works fine

My colleague Srecko went bruteforce + lightcache, no artifacts

Thank you guys for the replies

                Hey Andrei,

Sorry about that, reply went in same time.

Thank you, will do next time

                clr/nrm/dist thresh were below 0.1/0.3

                Again, many thanks for help
