  • Bump map in Fast SSS2 Material....where?

Hi am I missing something but is there no way to add a bump / normal to the Fast SSS2 Material in C4d like there is in the 3ds max version?

    Hello HeadOfficeStudio

If you aim to add bump or normal mapping to Fast SSS2 Material you can do that by using the Blend Material. More information about it here: https://docs.chaos.com/display/VC4D/Blend+Material

Would you find it useful to have bump/normal options implemented into the Fast SSS2 Material itself? Any examples of how will this improve your workflow will be much appreciated.

Thanks . Im using the fast sss2 for a skin shader, so usually, skin has some kind of normal map . You have the input in max but not c4d?

I guess it depends if doing it via blend material is going to render slower? Does the Alsurface material render as fast as FastSS2 (it has a bump input)

You can also try the bump material. It should not slow down the render

Ah ok i see how it works, yes adding a fast sss2 as the base material to a bump surface seems to work. Sorry coming over from max just getting used to how things work !

There are couple of ways to achieve your goal stated in this post. It would be great if you let us know which one you find most appealing to your workflow.

Please, be aware that any displacement you introduce to a scene may slow down the rendering process.

Meanwhile, I have informed on the topic you've raised and it will be discussed internally.

Hi Viktor, maybe I'm missing something, how could we add bump using the blend material? As far as I can tell mixing a second material will also add other components like diffuse etc.

                Hi sirio76

You are correct. By using the Blend Material, every channel could be affected. The Bump Material is specifically for Bump maps. It really depends on what the final outcome is aimed to be.
