  • Layered displacement, displacement tag is just bad.

One thing I have found to be very disappointing is vrays lack of material/node displacement. Having this on a tag.... quite frankly sucks its bad workflow. I will tell you why.

Say you are using ANYTHING in your node material that changes the textures position.... welp throw that out the window because the displacement tag only looks at the material tag's UV. So you cant use triplanar, no uv rando, no procedural anything in your nodes.

    This needs to be changed.

A setup like this is also a nightmare, but stupidly easy in Redshift or octane.

Yes this can definitely be improved and its already been reported.
Looking at the screenshot it seems that you are trying to replicate some kind of foam shader, if that's the case you can do it easily using the standard editor:

Oh I was just using that as example I can create it just fine its just less control and harder to do. makes me wish I was back in RS. I often use pretty complex trees and not being able to do it all in nodes is very limiting.

Hello seth_richardson Thank you for reporting this. As sirio76 pointed out it has been already reported and logged into our system [VC4D-1883] We will make sure to reach out to you if there's more information on the topic.

Is that foam just a shader? No extra bubble geo? Looks really really good!

Yes is just a shader with displacement, it was a quick test, still need to optimize some details.

I added to the ideas portal. It looks like no cinema users are submitting anything

wolfgang_himmelfarb Most off the major issues and wishes are already logged by developers in their internal system, so it could be a bit misleading. If you search for issues in the forum you will find that there have been post and conversations about most of the things I think if the new release comes out the ideas portal will see more activity

Here's where I asked for that 3 years and 9 days ago :
                  https://forums.chaos.com/forum/v-ray...-material-node

I've been away from V-ray for a bit; I was hoping that had gotten added while I was gone
