  • Vray 5 mesh light

    Hello!
I'm searching the Vray mesh light for Vray 5 C4D...but I don't find it.
I want lighting an interior office with some linear lamps, and circular lamps.
In Vray 3.7 you can link a mesh or solid to a Vray Area Light, but In this upgrade it seems like there're some utilities out...or maybe simply I can't find them?
In linear lights I easily can put a rectangle light, but for the ring lamp I can't use any light that the actual engine offers...

    Thanks for the help!

      Hello royal_metropolitanespaa ,

V-Ray Mesh light is not yet implemented in V-Ray 5 for Cinema4D. It is on our to-do list and it will be added in the future.

Until then you can use Light material to produce self-illuminated surfaces.

But there is no multiplier for the light material to push the light, right?

          Hello steilvorlage.de ,

You can control the intensity of the emitted light via the "Color Multiplier" option in the parameters of the light material.

Ah shure, sorry. I was in the usual vray-mateial/self illumination. Thank you

I hope, it will be supported as fast as possible... Need it!

                Hello HarrySeidl,

We are aiming to introduce the missing V-Ray 3.7 features to V-Ray 5 for Cinema4D excluding the ones that are considered deprecated. Mesh light is on our to-do list but we cannot provide any specific timeframes on when it will be implemented. Thank you for your understanding.

You could still achieve plenty with the emissive material applied to a custom mesh.
There are a few limitations, but for the most common cases it does just fine

In V-Ray 5 for C4D I've tried to create a mesh light effect using the VRayLightMtl, but have had no success. No matter how high I set the Color Multiplier, the material seems to only self-illuminate, and cast very weak, poor quality lighting into the scene.

The V-Ray 5 documentation mentions 'Direct Illumination' under Light Material > Parameters > Compensate Exposure (see attached screenshot), but I can't find where to turn Direct Illumination on.

Is it currently possible in V-Ray 5 to create a light material similar to the Advanced Material in V-Ray 3.7? The V-Ray 5 Light Material seems to only function like an old Advanced Material that has it's Direct Illumination de-activated.

                      Thanks

                        Hello JeremyLondonMDL,

Please note that the "direct illumination" optimization, which will allow the light material to behave as an actual mesh light has not yet been implemented inside V-Ray 5 for Cinema4D. This is on our to-do list and will be implemented in the future. I will update the thread once it is implemented.

This topic has already been discussed in this forum thread.

I would also like to thank you for your feedback about our documentation page. I will make sure to let our relevant team know and update the documentation accordingly.

                          Hi Aleksandar

Do you have an estimated timeframe for the implementation of Mesh Lights and Light Material Direct Illumination in V-Ray 5 for C4D?

At present I've had to keep many of my projects in C4D R20 and V-Ray 3.7, as they rely on these features.

                          Thanks

                            Hello JeremyLondonMDL,

I can really provide any timeframe that implementing those features might take. They are on our to-do list with bumped priority and I will keep you posted about any updates. Your understanding is highly appreciated!
