  • Animated deformation does not work

    I'm using several deformers in my project that turn on and off.
    The hierarchy in my project is large so I tried to find what was causing it. But I noticed the behavior of rendering the deformation or switching it off is very unpredictable.

    So I created 3 files.
    Deformed 1:
    Has 2 working hierarchies. Some work, some don't.

    Deformed2:
    I removed 3 objects from "Deformed1". And now the 3 lower objects that do work in "Deformed1" don't switch off anymore.

    Deformed3:
    Very simple hierarchy. But not switching off..
    I also animated the strength of the deformation. And it works when increasing (frame 0-3). But decreasing doesn't show it.
    Only when it reaches it's initial state at frame 6 it resets.

    I really hope this can be fixed soon. Since I already started a project but I can not finish it for now.. But my client doesn't care about that.

    Hi floris_drupsteen, as I mentioned in the thread for problems with animated visibility (post), we are aware of the problems with animated deform flag. Unfortunately, we are currently in the process of major changes to support multi-instances, and fixing this will not be easy until that changes are ready.
    For the time being, we can try to fix the animated deformer strength, to allow having frames with "reset" state of the deformer. Will this be sufficient for your needs, until we manage to fix the deform flag properly?

      Hi Deyan,
      I can animate the deformer. In my example I used the strength.
      But In my project I use the FFD object. And I have tried animating the points but that didn't work.
      But if that is something that would be possible to fix, that would certainly get me out of trouble!

        Hi floris_drupsteen, I managed to fix the animated strength, the fix will probably be available tomorrow afternoon or the next day. I will write again when the build is available.
        As for the animated deform flag - I can not give precise estimate yet, but it is prioritized and we will get to it as soon as we make progress with the multi instance support. I will again post here once there is progress on this issue.

          Hi floris_drupsteen, sorry for the delay. The fix for animated strength of the deformers is available in the latest stable nightly builds (located here). This fixes only the strength - as I mentioned before, the enabled flag will be fixed later.

            First animation tests I did work now. And FFD as well.
            So I'm implementing it in my project now and hope I won't run into anything else.
            But this saves the day
