We had a similar error with the black/grey buckets that we had already reported. Could it possibly have something to do with the memory? We have now set our virtual memory to a fixed size (64GB which is half of our normal memory) and it feels like this error occurs less often now.

However, this is just an idea shot in the dark because I can not yet 100% exclude that the error no longer occurs.

If it's the same issue it shouldn't be related to memory. Did you also get the same errors for overbright or invalid pixels?

Although we only played around with the light cache vs Brute force settings they both had issues (the brute force had less black buckets but still had them)

I'll attach a sample scene a bit later.
If you had the issue with Brute force then it's most probably something else since the issue described here is related to the adaptive lights and they require Light cache available to work fine meaning that you should only get the issue with the Light Cache configuration. Still having a scene would be helpful to identify what could be the issue in your case so thank you for the suggestion to provide the scene. It will be very helpful to us.

Doger and akos_kiss Did you also get the same errors for overbright or invalid pixels and can you please share your OS and V-Ray + Cinema 4D versions?

Hi Doger and akos_kiss , It would also be interesting to know if you have a Vray sun and sky in the scene. Both of my problematic scenes had this in.

          Hi!
I've attached a test frame and link to the scene file. We are using a dome light with an hdri in our scene. I've used the same scene file we had for our project but cleaned it out, and noticed that i couldn't reproduce the same issue in brute force mode.

VRay Sun & Sky = No

              akos_kiss ,

The black buckets in your scene happen because of the motion blur that you have on the scene. This is known issue on our end, and is already reported for fixing which unfortunately isn't something trivial. The current workaround is to set the Geometry Samples for the Motion Blur in Render Settings to at least 3 to have enough samples for the image to render fine. This applies for both the Global Motion Blur in Render Settings and for the Motion Blur in the Physical Camera.
