I would love to have the Team Renderer supported again. For animations it was very helpful and easy to set up. I am currently trying to find a way to render over a server and some clients without my workstation involved. Not so easy to be honest.

did you try using DR and excluding your own machine from the rendering?

yes, I am always using DR rendering without my workstation included, but I have to start it directly out of cinema and then my workstations needs to stay connected. I would prefer rendering it directly over a server, so that I can take my workstation away. That's why I am using the Team render server for animations, that they can just render.
