  • [ HOU-2470 ] Bumpmap from (point-)attribute?

    Hi,

is there a way to use a (point-)attribute as Bumpmap in any way? The only thing I can get to work right now is using the option "Normal (tangent)" on the bump tab. But this results in "bump-points" at the location of the points. The values are not interpolated like they are if I wire the value into the diffuse color. I think the reason is that the bump "map" (data in my case) needs uv coords in some way ... But I can't figure out how this could be done. I definitely don't want to use baked textures ... Any thoughts on this?

Try picking up the attribute with a user attribute vop and piping this to the diffuse of the shader.

      Hi,

well, I know how to use attributes in shaders, but thanks anyway. My question was if there's a way to use the value to drive the bump mapping, because simply wiring this into the bump map parameter doesn't work.

Ah I see. If the points are too discrete, maybe blurring the attribute could work? Hard to say without the scene.

            Hi,

is there a way to see the progress of logged cases/bugs? Especially if they are solved?

I would like to know the answer to this too. I even have considered starting a small database to log the current state of vray Houdini for mine and other users benefit. It takes a lot of forum reading to understand what the current state of various features is. It would be nice if there was an up to date list of potential show stopper bugs.

I've been doing that for a while since I had so many requests and was getting hard to keep track of it and even find them in the forum.

If anyone is interested, you can check it in this dynalist link (view only): https://dynalist.io/d/oKuNDqaQsAS4-G...FAW#theme=dark
But like I said, it's only my latest requests.

                Best,
                David.

That’s amazing David. Exactly what I had in mind. Would you consider adding more major bugs that you didn’t report?

                    Hey,
That's a bit too much for me, I do have an actual job I need to do everyday

I think it's easier if I would add some people to help with that to the list that would be able to edit it.

                    Best,
                    David.
