  • [ HOU-2685 ][ HOU-2686 ] ( fixed )( open )V-Ray Referenced Shader - Displacement

    Hi,

I have a big terrain scene and I build complex Mix Materials including Displacement.
It seems that the Referenced Shader doesn't bring over the displacement set up in the referenced shader.
Is this a bug or an expected behavior?

    Thanks,

    Helge

    Hi pixeltrain,

What exact node are you referencing with the reference node?
When fetching an output node it only gets the Material, is this the issue?

You can reference the displacement or the input of the displacement node to then re-use or combine with more things.

    Best,
    David.

      Hi David,
In my test setup I have a base material with surface and displacement (=> Torus).
For the grid I use a separate shader in which I first reference the output node in the Base Material VOP. Works like expected.
Then I reference the Displacement Node in the Base Material. The Output of the Reference Shader turns blue (Surface) which is expected, but it doesn't do anything. No displacement.

      Maybe I miss something?

      Thanks a lot

Just gave it a try here, for some reason I had it in my mind that this was working. But just like in your example, it didn't work. But I don't think this is the expected behaviour or by design.

Right side dummy as the referenced displacement:

Yeah, think this is a bug.
If I reference to the output of a shader I would expect all 3 possibilities (material, surface, volume).

          Thanks,
          Helge

Hello pixeltrain, I've logged both problems. HOU-2685 - displacement not working when referenced, HOU-2686 - surface and volume inputs not shown when builder output is referenced
