      Hello david.anastacio, ronald_a

I would like to inform you that the V-Ray Fur Distribution Slider has now been upgraded.

Please, test it in our latest Nightly build and feel free to share any feedback you may have: https://nightlies.chaos.com/main#/vray6houdini/nightly

Actually what I would find very useful that is kinda on this topic is a vray displacement sop that works the same as the rendertime displacement. Often I want to do things like scatter small objects on a displaced surface and its a real pain in the neck to reverse engineer where they should be moved to to match the rendertime displacement.

Have you tried exporting the subdivided mesh with the bake geometry output? We usually use it for this exact scenario.

It's not perfect, but it works. Has issues with multiple primitives and instanced objects.

          Best,
          David.

No I haven't, but the whole point is that I want to scatter lets say, 1000 points on the surface of a 20M poly surface (after displacement). 1000 texture lookups to place to points in the right location are practically instant while baking a whole mesh is the exact opposite of instant!

I would like to let you know that V-Ray Fur now works with packed Alembic Files. You can find the implementation in our latest Nightly Builds here: https://nightlies.chaos.com/main#/vray6houdini/nightly

viktor_angelov and when you say unpacked Alembics you mean packed, right?

                  Hello ronald_a

Yes, I meant packed Alembics. I am sorry for the mistake.

Would love to get your feedback once you test it.

I had a look at it with yesterdays nightly and this does not seem to work. I did actually test it before you posted it here because I saw it in the nightlies changelog with an older version and it did work. is it possible that something broke in the last couple of days?

I just tested the set-up with Nightly Builds from 16th and 23rd of August and it works as expected. Please, refer to the image attached: http://ftp.chaosgroup.com/support/sc...3_09-20-00.jpg

                              Hey

Is it working with displaced packed alembics? And if it is, what is the advised workflow for the fur to read the displacement associated with the base surface?

                              Best,
                              David.
