  • GPU rendering black image

    Hi there,

Just seen there is another post bellow this, but they resolved this by updating to the latest drivers which doesn't solve my issue.

I have a scene which is basically loads of curves using the Hair shader. The element is visible in LC (which I'm guessing is always processed on the cpu) then as soon as it starts rendering on the gpu it starts showing black buckets, interestingly enough it still takes a while to process each bucket like it's sampling something still.

    Cheers,
    Danny

Hey I think this is an issue with hair and light linking that is solved but not yet available in the nightly builds, but should be soon. To check you can add something behind the hair and see if it is black (not lit).

Just to be sure can share the scene so we can check?

Ah brilliant, won't be able to test/send the scene till this evening (BST).

Hello, can you try to select only the CPU to be used from GPU Devices, just to check if the object is rendered.

I've sent an email to support with the scene file. Rendering with a white grid behind it rendered something (attached image). Rendering in gpu mode but with the cpu selected turned out blank too.

Thanks, I'll check the scene from support and will answer ASAP.

Hello MF_Danny , think I found it. Try to assign the Hair material on geo level in Render > Material. I'll log the issue so our devs can fix it.

chakarov Yeah that works, though the lighting looks very different. Almost like it's only using one of the lights in the scene. Also my gpu usage whilst rendering is no more than 20%

This might be caused by another issue with hair and lightlinker, which is fixed but still not in the nightlies. We are working on updating the stable nightlies, so all the fixes be available there.
