  • (fixed) [HOU-2649] (fixed) [HOU-2628] vray 5.1 alembic light linking issue

    Hi,

it seems something is broken with alembics and lightlinking. I isolated the issue in a simple scene. rendering this with update 1 results in a black render (of the alembic part of the object) while rendering it with our current production build (5.0 core) works.

Raise your hand for an example scene.

              Hello again.

Without frames and subframes in the expression it is working also with V-Ray Core 5.10.20.
It is added in our system for further investigation.
You will be notified when something new comes up.

              Thank you for reporting!

              Best regards,

tsvetomira.girginova hey, I checked this issue and it seems to be resolved, Can you confirm?

Also, with the same scene, there seems to be another minor issue: when you force the material (* in forced materials) you can see that the alembic renders grey. if you find the alembic's material builder you will see, that there are two materials in there: one that is actually connected to the material output and another one that is not connected at all. it appears that the material that is not (!) connected to the output is the one beiing rendered (if connection is swaped the other material will render). this issue only seems to happen with alembics with baked in shop_materialpath. let me know if you need further info on this.

                  Hello, ronald_a.

We are working on some final improvements, but yes.
That's why I haven't announced it so far.

I will inspect the freshly described behaviour and ask if something more is needed.

                  Thank you!

Dear ronald_a, you are not forgotten!

I have just logged the forced materials issue with HOU-2649 number.
It is happening only when there are some unused materials in the Builder left, which will be deleted through the work process in main cases.
But still - it shouldn't work that way, yes.

Thank you for pointing this out!

The fix is yet to come.

                    Best regards,
                    TS

tsvetomira.girginova great! I can confirm that your findings are identical to mine. you are correct that most of the time any unused material will be deleted, but you know how it goes, sometimes this gets forgotten or sometimes this is intentional (you want to keep a version of that shader without duplicating the builder, just in case...). So good that this gets resolved. I take it, that the inital issue with lightlinking has now been officially resolved (as it says fixed).

Btw. Is there anything a user can do with a bugnumber (HOU-xxxx) - like look up the status - or is this just a reference for you?

HOU-2628 is fixed and HOU-2649 will be.
