  • (Open, Fixed) [HOU-3198] [HOU-3215] Triplanar into bump map channel

    V-Ray for Houdini number:23911 hash:a62975a from 13 Apr 2022 19:08
    V-Ray Core 5.20.20 [18a43118] from 12 Apr 2022

    Good morning,

I have a texturing issue: the bump map channel in the V-Ray Material isn't receiving input data when I'm using a triplanar node with rest attributes. Everything works fine until I switch on the rest attributes in the object properties (image 2). After switching this on (for the whole session, even if subsequently turned off), the image input only works in the bump channel if not using a triplanar (compare image 3 and 4). This is only the case for the bump map channel - I can still plug the triplanar into other channels, e.g. diffuse, and it works (image 5).

Hope that's clear. Let me know if you need anything else.

    Hi andy_clarke,

This is known issue, we also reported it a week ago, I think they are already looking into the problem

    Best,
    David.

        Hey andy_clarke ,

It appears that the Bump Type under the V-Ray material needs to be set to "From Bump" for the Triplanar bump with rest to work as expected. I'm messaging so you don't have to wait for an update but I'm looking into this and we'll definitely figure out a way to simplify this behavior - thank you for bringing this to our attention.

        Best regards!

          Hi Gosho.Genchev ,

Thanks for the response. I've just tested this and unfortunately the 'From Bump' option doesn't fix it for me. I've tried it in a couple of different files and also through the V-Ray Bump node and it's still not working. I've found that the 'Normal (Tangent)' option works though so for now I've converted my bump map to a normal map in Photoshop.

I'll look forward to the fix.

          Many thanks,
          Andy

            Hi Gosho.Genchev ,

Any update on this? I've just tested out the latest stable build from 3rd August and the problem persists.

            Thanks,
            Andy
