  • (Open, Open) [HOU-3217] [HOU-3218] Displacement for Instances Bug?

    Hello!

My render freezes/crashes when I add displacement to my Instances. Maybe I do it the wrong way or it's a bug.

sometimes it works but slow and when I stop the render and start it again it freezes. IPR seams to render somehow but production has it's problems.

    I use Houdini Indie 19.0.622 and V-Ray for Houdini number:22079 hash:b86215f from 15 Jun 2022 01:34
    V-Ray Core 5.20.20 [b929ba03] from 8 Jun 2022

    Here's the Scene:

        Hey tobiasroesli ,

The problem seems to be related to the Rayserver Instancer option on the V-Ray Object Properties. I'm sure Andrei will fix it as soon as he can - meanwhile you could disable Rayserver Instancer as a workaround.

        Best regards!

            Hello Gosho.Genchev ,

I found another bug which is related to the Use Rayserver.

There's also a connection with it and triplaner normal maps.

              Hey tobiasroesli ,

Thanks for the heads up! Just to confirm - the issue that you have is that the projection appears different when you enable "Use Rayserver Instancer", correct?

              Thanks!

                Hello Gosho.Genchev ,

yes, when I disable the Rayserver on all blocks are normal maps appearing/working. When I enable it, they disappear on a few blocks/sides. Looks like that they work in some angles but in others not.

                Cheers!

                    Hi Gosho.Genchev ,

I got another Question. I was wondering how to make Instances of an object which has a Displacement applied? I pack the object and after I apply a material which contains the Displacement.
Now when I render it compiles all the instances displacement seperated which means one object needs 300 MB Ram for Displacement and 10 3000 MB. How can I avoid that. So it only compiles for one object and then they are instanced.

Do you know what I mean?

                    Best
                    Tobias
