  • [HOU-3566] VrayScene missing shop_materialpath on some objects

    Hi everybody,

i was wondering if someone has the same issue when transfering VrayScenes from 3dsmax to Houdini, or if at least if it is a known problem...

So when i export a VrayScene from 3dsmax, load it in Houdini and unpack it to polygons some primitives have either only a reference to the material node but not the Material or the entire shop_materialpath is missing.

To further clarifiy, there is nothing special about those objects nor their materials in 3dsmax. They are simple ungrouped, unlinked Editable Polys with basic VrayMaterials ...

Also the naming of both, the object and the material is consitent with all other namings in the scene.

    So any ideas?

    Oh and P.S.

    1. Why do you need to unpack?
    2. I'll need a scene to figure out exactly what's happening (unsupported (yet) shader? unsupported (yet) material assignment?)

      Hi bdancer,

      1. I want to unpack to have access to some topologies in the szene and it is easier to find and modifiy the matierials in Houdini that way.
      2. I could pack the scene and send a Donwload link to your email, would that be ok?

        bdancer...

I reduced the scene to one object that shows the problem in Houdini and attached it here. I hope this helps.

BTW, what i found out is that the root of the problem is in the geometry not the Material. If i attach it to a newly created Editable Poly and export it as VraySzene the material path shows up in Houdini.

We'll check this scene asap, but I still wonder why do you need to unpack to polygons.

Well in one case for axample there were certain meshes i wanted to add houdini hair to and this doesn't work with packed geometrie. There were certain other small thing i can not properly recall right now, but generally i had the need to edit certain parts of the scene im more detail.

And after all you added the option to unpack, i just wanted to help reporting an issue.

                Hey,

Thanks for the heads up! I've logged the request as HOU-3566.
The issue seems to be specifically with the V-Ray Object Properties assigned to the node - I'll check with the developers to see what steps can be taken to resolve the problem.

                Best regards!
