  • Vray 7 for Houdini 20.5 Committing scene failed

    Hello,

I wanted to try the recently released Vray 7 for Houdini, and tried with Houdini 20.5 builds 445 and 487, but it seems that it fails to render.

    Message on VFB log :

    Code:
[00:18:24.896] Error : Error building Embree static ray caster, error message: [CommitEmbreeThread::threadProc] 1: Committing scene failed

    From "About Vray" window :

    Code:
    V-Ray for Houdini hash:6cf69be from 28 Jan 2025 17:05
    V-Ray Core 7.00.10 [125d49e9] from 23 Jan 2025
    Windows 11

Tried with Vray 7 for Houdini 20.0.724, and it does the same.

By the way, Vray 6.2 for Houdini 20.0/20.5 is working well on the same PC.

This looks like some issue that is not possible to fix without a scene, is it possible to send us some? You could use the email in my forum signature.

Just sent you an email with a hip file. Nothing fancy, it's a torus with a simple material applied, the scene is lit by a dome light and rendered from a camera with vray's physical cam properties.

          Dear obeida_zakzak1, hello.

Since the scene is simple, we suspect that your machine is lacking of AVX2 support, which is now required for V-Ray 7 to work properly, see here:
Processor Intel®64*, AMD64, or compatible processor with AVX2 support
          Could you please verify this?
Check the CPU type from System Information and look at the product page is AVX2 listed in Instruction Set Extensions.

          Waiting for your answer.

          Best regards,
          TS

The CPU in my machine is AMD Ryzen 9 7950X and it seems to support AVX2 extension.
