  • Use primvars in material?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is any way of accessing primvars while shading?

The MultiTex works great for randomizing the color per instance on still frames but it gets risky as the Render ID changes every time the USD gets reloaded.
But what I want to achieve is to have explicit/weighted control over some colors on instances. (different seed per tree, etc.)
Is there any way of achieving this today? Or soon?

Yes, same as in non-Solaris - Tex User Color, Tex User Scalar.

I'll be damned, it works. Must have been too impatient when I was testing it out. Is there a reason that displayColor is called by Cd? Got me confused for a second
3dsmax is unable to render it though Will make a post in their section.

Solaris translates Cd attribute as displayColor.
We are making internal auto-renaming to Cd so using Cd should work.
Send me a scene if anything doesn't work, please.

Everything seems to be working if I stay in Houdini. Just trying to figure out how to load USDs into 3dsMax

V-RayHydra delegate (which is what Solaris is using) is still much more advanced then the native USD loader, so yes, it may not work in 3dsmax's VRayScene object... Feel free to report though.
