  • Reflection mask AOV

    Hi,

Would be great to have a AOV that would give us masks of reflections for selected objects, like a multimatte but for reflections.
    See example in attached scene.

      Hey David, Fridayvfx ,

please correct me if I am misunderstanding your request. The feature you are asking for should be fairly straightforward to achieve using LPEs with V-Ray 5. (https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...th+Expressions)
We've been working on V-Ray 5 for Houdini in the past few months along with the Hydra/USD features to make sure V-Houdini is up to date with the latest V-Ray features. It won't be long until you can try it out to see if LPEs fit your needs.

      Hope that helps!

        Hi Gosho.Genchev ,

Thanks for that, I was not familiar with LPEs in Vray (not a maya/vray user), but that sure opens up the door to a whole new world of possibilities
So those features have to already be in Core, they are just not exposed in Houdini, right?

        Best,
        David.

bdancer: I've edited the quote since that variable is unofficial and its better to wait for V-Ray 5.x for proper support.
Oh boy oh boy. this gets me excited! I didn't know about the env variable.
          Thanks for the hints guys!

bdancer , thanks for the info, hope you didn't get in trouble by puting that variable out there

            Best,

This is already possible with rayswitch texture as an extra tex aov, I don't use vray for houdini, but in maya principal is same. You add your rayswitch and set the reflection color to red, then add an inclusive selection set and add your sphere into it. For each color you can have different ray switch blend with an add function.

                Hello,

we added a V-Ray for Houdini specific variable for the 4.3 implementation of LPEs in the most recent nightly builds - the environment variable is called VFH_LPE_ENABLE and should be set to 1 - if set so, the "Light Path Expression" option will appear in the Light Select Type menu.

                Best regards!

                  Hi
I've set the variable VFH_LPE_ENABLE=1. but where can I find Light Select Type menu?
                  Can you post a snapshot?
                  Thanks

                    Hey elrachyd ,

the change was made on Friday, September 11th - it seems the last available nightly build is from Thursday, September 10th. I apologize if my post came across confusing - future builds will use the VFH_LPE_ENABLED variable and you will find a new menu entry under the Type parameter of the Light select element.

Build "from Sep 1 2020" doesn't have this variable support, you'll have to install more recent nightly.
