V-Ray for Maya 2019
Progress report
Summary
With the release of Maya 2019 by Autodesk on Jan 15, 2019, the V-Ray for Maya development team was aiming at releasing official support with V-Ray as soon as the V-Ray internal builds were verified to be stable. The team at Chaos Group has successfully added support for Autodesk Maya 2019 in the internal builds and our QA team has been running tests to verify the stability of the builds. However, during the testing phase, the team has discovered a few critical issues with Maya 2019 itself that will delay the official V-Ray release with Maya 2019 support.
Major issue
Outliner issue with sets
Summary: Set objects disappear from the outliner.
Description: Creating V-Ray objects of type 'set' (like the LightSelect RE, VRayDisplacement, etc) will not show up in the outliner. The same behavior is observed with other ‘set’ objects, including objects created by other plugins and native Maya set objects. Sets can also appear multiple times in the outliner or they can disappear after creating another object. The issue does not affect the scene itself - only the list of objects in the Outliner is affected. Many V-Ray workflows rely heavily on sets and this bug seems to be a significant impediment for users’ workflows.
Workaround: Force-refreshing the outliner can be used as a workaround. For example - applying a filter in the outliner and then removing it.
Minor issues
There are a few other minor issues, which are not critical to the support of 2019 and our team will be able to fix or work around them soon.
Conclusion
We have contacted Autodesk about these issues, and they assured us the issues have been given high priority. Until we have a more clear picture from Autodesk, we’ve decided to delay the official support for Maya 2019. Until then, Maya 2019 support will be available in the stable nightly builds, starting later this week. If our readiness to release official support for Maya 2019 changes, we'll make a new statement and notify our users.
Best regards,
The V-Ray for Maya Team
