    V-Ray for Maya 2019
    Progress report

    Summary
With the release of Maya 2019 by Autodesk on Jan 15, 2019, the V-Ray for Maya development team was aiming at releasing official support with V-Ray as soon as the V-Ray internal builds were verified to be stable. The team at Chaos Group has successfully added support for Autodesk Maya 2019 in the internal builds and our QA team has been running tests to verify the stability of the builds. However, during the testing phase, the team has discovered a few critical issues with Maya 2019 itself that will delay the official V-Ray release with Maya 2019 support.

    Major issue
    Outliner issue with sets
Summary: Set objects disappear from the outliner.
Description: Creating V-Ray objects of type 'set' (like the LightSelect RE, VRayDisplacement, etc) will not show up in the outliner. The same behavior is observed with other ‘set’ objects, including objects created by other plugins and native Maya set objects. Sets can also appear multiple times in the outliner or they can disappear after creating another object. The issue does not affect the scene itself - only the list of objects in the Outliner is affected. Many V-Ray workflows rely heavily on sets and this bug seems to be a significant impediment for users’ workflows.
Workaround: Force-refreshing the outliner can be used as a workaround. For example - applying a filter in the outliner and then removing it.

    Minor issues
There are a few other minor issues, which are not critical to the support of 2019 and our team will be able to fix or work around them soon.

    Conclusion
We have contacted Autodesk about these issues, and they assured us the issues have been given high priority. Until we have a more clear picture from Autodesk, we’ve decided to delay the official support for Maya 2019. Until then, Maya 2019 support will be available in the stable nightly builds, starting later this week. If our readiness to release official support for Maya 2019 changes, we'll make a new statement and notify our users.

    Best regards,
    The V-Ray for Maya Team

Thanks so much for the update!
The delay makes sense now, I don't mind using Maya 2018 for few more weeks.

All I can say is thanks Chaos Group for testing products properly before release.

"The same behavioris observed with other ‘set’ objects, including objects created by other plugins and native Maya set objects."

Things like this happen when products aren't tested properly for official release!

For the moment, 3.6 support for 2019 is not on our roadmap.

It seems like this is a showstopper, do we have to wait until Autodesk fix this in a service pack for Maya 2019?

Pretty close. As mentioned before - there's stable builds with 2019 support already - you can grab them from there.
The only thing that will be a problem even after we release 2019 support officially will be waiting for Autodesk to release builds with some fixes for the known issues.

The version in the nightlies does not support the alsurface shader. The 4.1 is only available on linux. Thats why im asking.

                    Maya2019.1 should be close.

If you're looking at the April 19 builds - somethign went wrong there and only linux got built. April 19 and onwards should have alsurface support for the GPU. (It was still supported previously, but only for the CPU).
Try the previous possible date (I think it's April 3) - there should be builds for all OSs. Or wait until next week when there will be builds for the rest of the OSs.

Where on the nightlies site are the Maya 2019 downloads? When I go to https://nightlies.chaosgroup.com I see three folders: Nightlies, V-Ray 3.0 for Maya and Blender for V-Ray. The 'Nightlies' sub-folders only contain Blender downloads and the 'V-Ray 3.0 for Maya' sub-folders only have downloads for Maya 2018 and earlier.
