  • Vray Sun, why is this happening?

    Hey,

Apologies if this is an overly obvious one but I am having a strange lighting / shading / shadow issue using a vray sun for my direct light source.

As you can see, where the light is hitting the car body its very abrupt and hard, is there any way to soften this off? The harsh lines are proving quite tricky to deal with.

The light position is behind the vehicle, backlit so to speak.

Any help or advice on how to best mitigate this would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Seems to be something to do with having a dome light and vray sun both on at the same time..

I think this may happen with a sun, a sky and a dome light with no texture. You can try adding the sky texture to the dome light.

        Hi there,

I'm not using a sky at all in this scene. I have a dome light with a HDRI texture and a sun light. Its a really odd one.

Try increasing the sun size, this makes a softer shadow.

            Hi,

Yeah, this does have an effect although I still feel as though the effect is more like a bug as simply disabling the dome light removes the effect. Its almost like the dome light is blocking the sunlight at certain angles.
