  • Vray Stochastic flakes colour

I've been wondering how the reflect filter and "random from map" are meant to work together. Should the reflect filter be left to white when using a ramp for colourised flakes in the "random colour map slot"? And only colourise the reflect filter if NOT using a "random colour map?" I've tried plugging the same ramp into the reflect filter, but that seems to work on UVs so I just get tilting.

What I usually do is use my Ramp in the reflect filter, then use an RGB noise in the random color map slot.
But I really never needed to use a random color map. I usually use random hue with saturation of 0.8 and lightness of 0.15
This gives amazing results without the need to use a map.
depending on the reflect filter colors, you might want to edit saturation and lightness
Also I think it is really essential to use Triplanar mapping type for the stochastic flakes material
Even if your UVs are really perfect your flakes will not look as natural as using Triplanar from xyz
I've attached the basic setup that I use with stochastic flakes below. Just file >> import in hypersade
depending at what you are trying to match, you can use more/less flakes layers and play with colors
I don't think it is possible to get similar flakes out of any other render engine without using any maps

Thats a super interesting idea to get nice colour variation, but still get the overall hue you're after. I will definitely try that out. Nice one!
