  • Vray 3.6 and camera 2d pan and zoon

    Hey guys,

I use / render with 2d pan and zoom rather than using post scale to add bleed or enlarge an object in frame. Is there any issues with Vray and doing this? Its been suggested that normal maps / bump maps can be affected in a negative way. I know that during Vray RT stochastic flakes dont compute as you'd expect if you 2d pan and zoom into the object DURING an RT session. I assume as Vray sees this as a fake zoom, and the flake are distance dependant. Thats all fine for me, but Ive been told even for final renders pan and zoom can be problematic. Any thoughts?

    Cheers.

I haven't had reports about normal/bump issues with pan/zoom. Nor for stochastic flakes. The pan/zoom options are a film transformation, there generally should be issues, but in the unlikely case that you run into an issue - do let us know.

Cheers Yolov. I'll keep an eye out for any bump / normal issues. Ive not had a problem but I was warned off the workflow by a colleague. I think the only issue with flakes Ive found is doing a large zoom into a car paint once an RT session has begun. The flakes look huge and far apart. But for final renders or RT sessions that start with a zoom enabled, Ive not had a problem.

I don't really recall having any issues with that, but that doesn't mean there's no issues at all. I did a few tests to make sure it's all good, but like I said - do let me know if there's anything.

This is what I mean about the pan and zoom issue with flakes. In one instance the camera is far away with a 0.068 zoom (using Pan/Zoom) The other is the camera moved physically near but to fill the same screen size. Interestingly I thought the issue only happened after an RT session began, but I couldn't get the zoomed render to look correct even after I restarted RT. Im using 3.6 btw.

When you say flakes, do you mean the carpaint material, the stochastic flakes material or something else? Can you get me a scene ?

Its using stochastic flakes for this test. Heres a link to an archived scene, so it should all be there. We default to Z up in our scenes. One camera is physically far away with pan/zoom enabled. The other is just close to the sphere.
