  • Distributed Render with Two Machines (CPU Only on Mac and CPU + GPU on PC)

    Hi,

Is it possible to do distributed/network rendering where one machine is a Mac and is set to CPU only and another machine is a PC set to CPU + GPU?

    Yes, should work just fine.
To show the V-Ray GPU render engine on Mac OS you need to set env var VRAY_MAC_GPU=1, as it is not officially supported because there are no Macs with NVIDIA GPUs.

You will need extra render node license for the extra DR machine though.

      Hi Blago,

      Thank you.

For clarity, are you saying I need the following licenses (assuming the Mac is the primary machine)?

1 GUI + 1 Render license for the Mac

      and

1 Render license for the PC

Yes, that's correct. As distributed rendering will make use of both machine at the same time, both machines will need a render node license. Since only the primary machine is going to run Maya, only that machine will need a gui license.
