  • Override support on the GPU

    Hi all

    Any progress on the Overrides GPU support. Even if it's just the Background, so we can render the floor reflected back in to the geo on the GPU?

    Material Override is supported but Environment Override is not yet supported.
    I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to override, can you send me a sample scene so I could better understand?

      Hi Svetlozar

      Yep, I'm after GPU support for the Environment Overrides.
      We work on a lot of Automotive shots, where we require control over these settings - floor plane projections etc.

      The GPU support has been requested a year ago or so, and I was just after an update.

          Just to ensure we are on the same page, you are talking about V-Ray Material Override attribute > Environment Override option here:

            Hi Svetlozar

            I'm after the 'Override Secondary Matte Environment' support on the gpu.

            Please read this post from a year ago:

            Even if we can have the Background support, we can assign a wrapper to the floor plane and have the background plate reflect up in to the car.

              Thanks, it's still not developed but I'll raise it as a question for future development.
              Can you explain in detail what's the use case for that? What exactly you are after and isn't there another way to get that result?

                Cool.

                Here is how we work on the CPU:
                ________________________________________

                Wrapper on floor Geo
                Matte for all secondary rays - With Projection Mapping

                Render Settings
                Environment
                Override Environment - On
                Override Secondary Matte Environment -On
                Background texture - placed background plate/image
                GI, Reflection and Refraction textures - we occasionally use these.
                ________________________________________

                When switching to the GPU, the Secondary Override does not render.

                Please let me know if you require any more info, as we would like add our GPU's to the preview and final renders.

                      I'm sorry to inform you but it looks like it's not that easy to implement those overrides for the GPU rendering.
                      We are still thinking ways to do that, not sure how much time it will take us to do it.

                        Ah, that's a shame.

                        Please keep me informed, as we heavily us the Background feature, and so currently we can't use the GPU for our rendering.
