  • Bercon textures

Just tried the Create a VRay node from file>BerconTileTex nodes but not getting any results.

I simply attached BerconTileTex to the color node but nothing, not even BerconNoiseTex or BerconWoodTex

    Is there a specific workflow?

    Hi,
since the BerconTile is a custom plugin from 3DsMax it doesn't have the appropriate scale values as defaults suitable for Maya (one of the reasons why it is inside the plugins folder). You can try the following:
On a new scene create a Plane and attach a VRayMtl with a BerconTileTex in the diffuse. Change the Size to a lower value from 25 to 0.025 and the Edge Color to white. This should give you some results. Check the attached image for a reference.

I've attached some maya presets with some decent looking settings for various noises. Some of the numbers are super wonky and took a lot of experimentation to figure out. Extract them to your C:\Users\<username>Documents\maya\<version>\preset s\attrPresets\VRayPluginNodeTex folder

The latest Substance Maya plugin could be a good alternative.

They show the Arnold workflow but it does work great with Vray.

Thanks for sharing! I recall having a hard time dialing in the values when first time trying the bercon textures in Maya following a Max tutorial.
          always curious...

It would be nice to have a proper AETemplate for some of these compatibility plugins so we can actually make good use of them. Right now it's just a jumble of unorganized attributes with bad default values.

That's great to hear, thanks Vlado. I'm tired of the bad default noise in Maya, looking forward to getting some more options.

                  Agree...

btw good few of Bercon Noise properties are not supported at all such as distortion, some of the noise types etc. - which often forces me to use Maya Simpex noise node.

Now when I think about it BerconMaps are one of the things I miss the most from 3ds max

Support for Bercon maps as native Maya nodes will be available in our next official release.

Any chance of a tip on how to plug a 2d texture node into the new VrayBerconNoise texture? I can't seem to find a way, and although I can move and rotate the texture in the UVW Generator Parameters of it, the appearance of it in the perspective view of Maya doesn't seem to match the render. Specifically, the Transform Angle on a Bercon texture I'm using doesn't match the render :/.

Can you give us an example? What texture are you plugging where?
