  • Vray Interior Render

    Hello everyone,

Back in the forums again. Here for some knowledge and advice. This is my first interior render using Vray Next and I must say that I am pretty happy with the outcome. Looked at a bunch of tutorials and familiarized myself with the new features of Vray Next like auto exposure and color balance and also using Vray sun and sky combo. Now I would like to do some post processing on this image either using Photoshop with the cryptomatte update or Nuke. Just wanted to see if anyone had some advice or tips on how to improve the render and make it feel, well, " more alive". Here for the knowledge and anything anyone would like to share or critique. Its looking great! A few things I noticed...
Get some colour / tonemapping involved. Whether its in render, or in post. Itll kill off those harsh blown out highlights, and cyan transitions. There are too many burnt out areas that shouldnt really be that bright unless they were a glancing reflection into a light source. I think overall alot of the materials could do with a darker diffuse, and more reflection. A lot of the surfaces seem a bit matte to me.

But strictly talking about post, youll want to control those super white blown out areas. Some subtle dpeth of field, some ISO noise, a bit of overall blur (0.5 gaussian maybe depending on res) photos can actually be a bit soft when you get 1:1 on them, while retaining edge fidelity. have a look at how photos behave in high contrast areas. Theres ususally a bit of edge glow, highlight effect. You can also add a very subtle chromatic abbera

I accidentally forgot to add the lut file I was using in the VFB. Here is what the raw render should look like, I know there are some burned out areas and I am working on fixing this but it looks a little different with the LUT file i was using instead of the default 2.2 gamma.

Looking great! The main thing I would add, and I'm kinda saying something similar to the other folks above, is that perhaps you can clamp your highlights and darks a bit. Perhaps you could slightly accentuate your warm and cool relationships. Its really looking great. Keep up the wonderful work!
