  • Vray Projection Baking Options

    Hello everyone,

    Just wanted to see if anyone has successfully used Vray's Projection Baking to bake a high poly model to low poly. I have been trying different setups for 3 days to no avail. It sometimes bakes to black, or nothing at all. I have been trying to find a tutorial in the universe for some guidance but I have not come across anything. Any guidance would be awesome.

    Currently working with Maya 2019.2 and Vray Next 2.1. Really in desperate help. Thanks everyone.

    Any help would be appreciated.

      Hey nshaun,

      I actually did get it to work. Nikolay, from Chaos, helped me out and he determined that the only option that is working properly at the moment in the bake outside geometry in the projection baking settings. One thing to make sure is that your low poly model envelopes your high poly in a decent matter. I got around this by creating my low poly model using the quad draw tool in maya, applied one smooth mesh level and shrinkwrapped to the high poly. Then, you select your low poly model and assign single vray bake options to selection. For the options;

      I used objects to bake: ALL

      Select skip objects with no vraybakeoptions

      Unchecked assign baked textures

      Placed the output path on your computer where you want the images to save

      Select Projection Baking

      And thats it. It should work. You might get some weird artifacts in some areas of the texture bake but you can fix that under the vraybakeoptions node. You will have to play around with the ray offset and max depth to fix that.

      If you need additional help let us know. Shout out to NIkolay for working with me through this.
