Render Passes & Compositing. Help me please !

Hello,

I am autodidact in rendering and I have a small problem of decomposition of my renderings.
I need to render a background and secondly my characters to be able to modify them without having to make the scene complete each time.
But I have a shade problem. I put the pictures for you to better understand, have you had this problem?

Difficult to say without more info as this could be scene or comp related, or both. Can you at least post your Maya scene? Is your comp a simple A over B with alpha?

I'll just try and guess based on the information already provided and here's how I would set it up:
- I'll keep the ground plane as matte object at all times
- I'll render one layer where the character is a matte object too, but all other objects (f.e. the cube behind) are not matte
- I'll render a second layer with the inverse setup (the character is not matte, but the cube behind is matte)
- Then in comp, I'll do A over B (A being the character and B being the background pass) and mask based on A's alpha (there's probably better ways, though).
