    In Max there is a material override in the global switches - V-Ray tab to set the whole scene as a single material.
    What's the equivalent in Maya to do this?
    I know we can use the render layers with material override, just thought there maybe a quicker way of applying single base material.

    There isn't one, but I would love to see this implemented in Maya. It is really useful for roughing out lighting so you can focus on contrast, shadow direction etc., as well as obviously speeding up test render times significantly as you can assign a simple shader that ignores textures and other shading attributes. Perhaps the thinking is that it's not necessary in Maya because of the ease of creating a layer override?
