  • Sit geometry on top of a Displaced surface

    Hi all

What’s the best way to sit scattered, placed and instanced rocks and grass on displaced geometry.

I’m using a VRayDisplacement node for ground rocks and now want to scatter geometry which will sit on top of the displaced surface.

    Cheers

Im not sure what u are using to scatter but I believe vrayacatterformaya allows you to load a displacement into the scatter and it shifts the scattered objects accordingly.

I think I tried the same with Maya MASH some time ago and it didn't work. I didn't find a solution actually.

        Cheers for the info.

        I'm using Mash too.

Current workaround is to use a Texture Deformer on a second piece of Geometry and roughly match the V-Ray Displacement.
        Paint using MASH Placer etc.
Then hide the Deformed Geo from Primary viz etc

Rendering the V-Ray Displacement and Mash Instances only.

Shame there's no way to sit geometry on top of V-Rays displacement like in vrayacatterformaya.

sweet jesus I hope this isnt the workflow....it makes world building very slow. Im currently trying to create a complex ground with scatting in areas on displaced ground, and maps for placement. so far Ive found UVW random breaks placement, but I cant seem to get the scatter geo onto the displaced surface either.
