The thing is I get a result in AE that is more similar to the VFB when I interpret footage as sRGB then ACEScg in AE.
    Is that wierd?

(I then have working space 32 bit, linerized. ACEScg working color space. Transforming from ACEScg --> Rec.709 and applying A Profile Converter Rec.709 --> Rec.709 Linearized)
Are you also remembering to set your comp windows to do a display transform? If you have it set to "none" then it will not display correctly. You need to choose "ACES/sRGB" or "ACES/Rec.709" or whatever the final output colorspace is going to be to see your end result in the AE comp window.

EDIT: I think you're saying you're actually doing a color conversion to Rec.709 in the comp, so what I just said would not apply.

In After Effects my project settings under Color are 32bit, Working Space 'None'.
I'm interpreting the EXR as 'preserve RGB'
Then I'm applying an adjustment layer over everything with the OpenColorIO plugin reading the same OCIO config that's being read in Maya.
Are you actually working in 32-bit, if not is there a reason you're setting your project to 32-bit? I mostly work in 16-bit.

Also, is there a reason you're using an effect to do the OCIO transform, versus doing it upon interpreting footage? I realize in theory they should be the same thing and the effect is more visible so maybe that's why, although I prefer to use the import option as it keeps comps cleaner. But I'm just curious if you've found an advantage of using the effect instead.
