If you use the AMPAS preset in the frame buffer make sure to change its gamma to 0.8 or so, to avoid some of the contrast.. like what I do in my video above
This AMPAS preset has more contrast than the ACES sRGB view

    About Kelvin temperature, how do you set this up for your lights? }
V-Ray should do the conversion internally for it.. but generally speaking if something is not correct it will look very saturated than usual

      Goodmorning Mohammed,
I've watched your video yesterday, very informative!

Regarding the light, what I meant is that temperature values are much more sensitive, especially warm values such as 3500 are very very saturated / warm.

This multiplies much more if you place a light close to for example gold / brass surface.

Yup, I understand. How do you set your kelvin temperature value for the light?
There are multiple ways this could be done. I will double check that our ACES conversions are correct for temperature

Also the burn is so, so much easier to avoid.
Do you find tone mapping of ACES (ACEScg>>sRGB) so much different to Filmic tonemap type AMPAS on regular sRGB primaries output?

thanks for the samples. do you have "sRGB" versions of these by any chance?

            Hi Piotrus,
I actually didn't make any trials between tonemapped (AMPAS) sRGB and pure ACEScg and I don't have sRGB versions of above projects.
The only comparisons I have are between standard sRGB and pure ACEScg.

Bear in mind that due to my mistake, ACES has more glare applied to it, all the rest is identical post both in VFB and PS.

Another thing is that I've started the project with sRGB in mind.
I believe I would approach it differently with beginning with ACES from the start (lights intensity, colors, etc.).
Therefore ACES would come out nicer.

The differences are very subtle in this example, I know...
              The way I see it:
              • Floor looks better and has nicer reflection gradient
              • Looking closely at mostera's plant vase, reflection are much richer
              • Ceramic cat decoration really pops up in ACES, despite having identical RGB values in both renders
              • Sun light on the wall is much stronger and yet it does not burn, If I'd boost it is sRGB to get that effect it would likely burn

                  thank you.
so this sRGB rendered image is using Filmic Hable or something else for tone mapping?

also I wouldn't worry about light intensity - adding 1 stop of exposure do ACEScg render so far works for me just fine (to match them close to sRGB).

If I remember correctly the sRGB only had some curves applied in VFB. No additional tonemapping. All the rest was done in PS.

Personally, I try to not rely much on exposure, as it always flattens the entire image in any case. I'd rather look too increase the scene lights seperately which in combination with ACES gives a nice depth boost.

I have to say I consider Filmic AMPAS tone mapper curve as essential in comparing sRGB to ACEScg. otherwise its just apples to oranges. I think every video I stumbled upon on YT is presenting raw sRGB renders with just gamma transform against ACEScg output nicely transformed to sRGB screen. this is quite misleading.

and changing exposure or adjusting light - same thing, just some noise if done in post.

I agree that most of the comparisons out there are a bit overexaggerated.
Though, I can't agree with exposure boost being same thing as adjusting lights to your needs.

Hi Muhammed_Hamed , any chance to know roughly when we can expect an updated ACES documentation for Maya? Currently I find it pretty confusing.

I will get this done in February, I have been very busy recently with multiple projects and finally getting to updating the docs
