  • Bake ACES info ito EXR

Is there any way to bake the ACES maya view transfrom into the EXR.
I know thats the wrong way but for certain reasons we need it this way. We use linked files in Photoshop.

If i save the image this way as PNG i get what we need. But if i save this image as EXR we get the ACES cg image without the 1.0 SDR transform in Phothoshop.

Yeah, that checkbox does not affect multi-channeled images. Not sure if there's a way to do it.

We have a slightly different work flow to you. But there is a tick box in the exr file options drop-down in render setting menu, at the bottom of exr section, something like save corrections in to exr. For us this saves the tonemapping and and VfB corrections into the RGB channel only of a multilayer exr. All we need to do is apply an aces to a98 lut in ps and the RGB matches our render in vray fb perfectly. U can then use this as a guide to try and match the sum of the parts in ps.

Thanks for the idea. I give it a try.

My bad, totally forgot about that option.

This option does not do anything. I see no change in photoshop if its truned off or on.
Would be great to get this somehow working with EXR. Its working fine with PNG or if we go back to non ACES.

What about LUT on top of linked smart layer?

edit: I mean acescg to whatever you are using in ps (srgb?)

Yes a solution i would like todo. But we have some extreme rules here in the Studio.
We have to find solutions that even an Ape can use.

It seems to work on my end. Are both "Save in Image" from the Display Correction and the "Save VFB Color Corrections to RGB Channel" active?

EDIT: In Maya, the option is located in the Image Format Options and it's called "Save Color Corrections to Raw files".

That does not work here with EXR.
If i save an PNG its working.

I use the save icon from the VFB. But its the same if i use the automatic saved images.

Could you reproduce the issue on a simple setup and attach it here?

I need to mention that we use the embedded color profiles in PS.

I think there's some kind of confusion. Just tested the color profile baking on your scene and it's working fine. However, when you are viewing it in PS (or any other software), you need to disable the additional sRGB curve application (since the profile is already baked). Try comparing a baked vs non-baked .exr. by opening the files in Chaos Player and setting the space of both files to sRGB - the non-baked should be equivalent to Raw and the baked should look as in the VFB (as it should).

There should be no additional curve in PS. Its workging if i save the sRGB EXR (non OCIO).
I agree its looking correct in Chaosplayer.
