  • VrayProxy - particle render mode instances?

    Hey guys!

Been trying to render particles from an alembic made in Houdini and loaded in a vray proxy.
The only options I see for rendering are spheres and points.

Is there a custom or instanced geometry option? Is this a thing at all?

Check this similar thread. There's no custom option from us and the issue from the linked thread seems to still stand - VRayProxies cannot be used as a particle system for the Maya instancer. Not sure if there's another way. Maybe through Bifrost?

      Thanks Hermit!

Looking up the thread, will run some tests.

A solution we're using for now is Houdini Engine w Vray.
Can't get Bifrost to work with Vray, only Arnold. Does it work at all?

The scene is created with Maya 2023 BF 2.7.0.0 and USD 0.22
Im hoping that Vray 6.1 will support BF 2.7.0.1 and USD 0.23

I keep saying support for Bifrost but this has nothing to do with this btw, is support for the latest USD basically. But if you use BF 2.7.0.1 which is the latest you have to use USD .23 which is a security update. Anyway, I tested it with the latest and greatest of everything and is working fine. Maya 2024, USD 0.23 and BF 2.7.0.1
