First ever VRay for Maya release?

I'm trying to remember back when I first started using VRay for Maya. and I think it's been around 20 years.
I remember the beta release which was around for like 3-4 years before the first official release.
So can anyone confirm when that pre release beta version was first available, I'm guessing 2001?

Must have been before that. As a Maya user I have never used max and I joined in 2006! It's all a bit blurry these days!

I know that there was a long running beta before that, as you say.

For completely unrelated reasons I was just looking at some code from way back and found that some of the first lines of code for Maya were written in 2006. This is when the first implementations of Maya textures were made in V-Ray.
