  • VRay Clipper Extremely Slow Render Times

I'm using a simple mesh in a VRay Clipper node to cut out another mesh as an Intersection mesh operation. The clipper increases the render time by 5 times. One minute render with no clipper, five minutes with the clipper. It also seems to slow down when rendering areas outside the clipper, in this case a simple cyc object in a turntable setup. Lighting is a VRay domelight with an hdr. I'm surprised how inefficient the render time is with this operation. Is this a bug? Are there some hidden tip and tricks for working with clipper that are important to know? Or is this just the cost of rendering with Clipper nodes?

I've tried a lot things to debug / improve the render time and I get the same result.

The clipped mesh was a brick pattern generated by mash as a repromesh, then duplicated so as to not have any history or connection to the mash network. Simple Vray mtl with no textures.

Clipper mesh is a simple, watertight, clean mesh with either a lambert or default VRay mtl. Material didn't matter, I got the same result.

    Thanks,
    -Brian

I presume it is expected, however, it would be best to send us the scene so we can have a look. Otherwise, check this similar thread for more clarity on how the VRayClipper works.

Thanks for the reply, Aleksandar. Unfortunately I'm unable to send a scene from my remote production environment for confidentiality reasons. I'll look at the other thread for any tips, thanks for that.

Curious if this is true. Haven’t experienced it personally
